Just in case anyone wants to join me online here are some details about Dark Age of Camelot Freeshards.

General info obout the three realms at war.

to play do the following:
download game client (mine with updates is about 4Gb) start this and update. once completed close the client without making an account and delete desktop shortcut.(unless you want to try the live server trial for 14 days)

Patch the client back to version 1.109 game.dll...copy this into the camelot directory (save the original game.dll somewhere in case you want to go to live later)(patching makes sure you have no bugs...this dll is just the previous official version to comply with portal launcher requirements)

download DaoC portal launcher. install and run...go to file/settings and direct it to your install directory, also select labyrinth from the expansion dropdown and language.....click Patch!
close patcher and settings.

Now you're ready to go! Create a username and password in the boxes to the right, select Brotherland server from the list and click play.

I play on Midagrd, but if you want to take a look at Albion or Hibernia, I have toons there too.

Playing on a Dawn of Light powered server
If you use your DAOC Client to connect to a Dawn of Light powered server you are (only) violating your EULA with Mythic. This gives them the right to close your live DAOC account if they find out.
Hosting a Dawn of Light powered server
Do not charge for services or the ability to connect to your server
Do not modify the client files

Hmm, I downloaded the client, patched it, etc etc..
I can't create a user ID tho, it's greyed out.

I checked out the guide videos, apparently you can just enter a user ID and password (made up) the first time.
I do that and the game loads on the status bar about 95% of the way and just does nothing after that.
I patched it etc as instructed above.

hmm that original game client link you sent me, that looks like a link to the US version of the client.
According to the faq on the shard website, you must use the european version.
Are you using the Us version or European version?

yes I have the US version.
I've always used the US version since live and never seen the FAQ that says otherwise. I think the only difference is that EU is still on 1.109dll and US is on 1.111dll.
I actually did those exact steps myself to install on this PC.

• Did you backdate the game.dll to 1.109? (the 95% load is typical a symptom of wrong .dll)
• did you try other servers than Brotherland?

you could also try the dol-loader in the downloads to the right of this page. It takes a little config, instructions on the same page.

Downloading this again and gonna give it another go.

I re-downloaded it and patched it again and it worked.
I created a character called "Goaty" it's a minotaur.

nice, what class? and do you want to level him the old fashion way or auto level in Mularn village?

Would rather level hi properly, I also get to re-learn DAOC which I've pretty much forgotten how to play now.

I may join you then.
But you can auto level in increments.../lvl 20, do thidranki till 24.
Then I think you can 45.
Insta 50 gives you realm rank 4 too now I see.

If you arrange a time I will guild invite you, make/buy you some gear/give you cash.
